Slips, Trips and Falls: Understanding the Causes to Prevent Incidents

June 10 at 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM CDT

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, falls account for one-fourth of all reported injury claims. Slips, trips and falls are also the second-leading cause of accidental death at work with about 16 fatalities per week (almost 850 per year). Only motor vehicle fatalities are higher. Just as defensive driving helps reduce the risk of vehicle accidents, defensive walking strategies, such as keep your eyes on the path, staying clear of objects and using the handrail, can be used to reduce the risk of falling. By knowing the causes of a fall, we can work to put in place risk reduction strategies to prevent a fall from happening. This webinar demonstrates the use of the Cause Mapping® method of root cause analysis to investigate and prevent slips, trips and falls to ultimately reduce the number of injuries in the workplace.

Even as the investigation expands into a larger analysis it does not contradict the initial 5-Why. Smaller incidents have few parts and bigger incidents have more parts, but the cause-and-effect principle doesn't change. It can be applied consistently to all incidents.
