The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that each year 385,000 needlesticks and other sharps-related injuries are sustained by hospital-based healthcare personnel. The estimate jumps to between 600,000 and a million when you also consider healthcare workers in non-hospital settings. Prevention is crucial as needlesticks are the most common cause of healthcare work-related exposure to bloodborne pathogens including HIV, and hepatitis B and C.
Every sharps incident includes the same, key fundamental cause-and-effect relationships. Knowing these allows you to analyze sharps injuries efficiently—without sacrificing the effectiveness of your investigation. During this two-hour online short course, you will learn the fundamental causal relationship for every sharps injury and how to use that information to conduct a thorough investigation.
