Root Cause Analysis Training: Cause Mapping Public Workshops

Cause Mapping I - Effective Root Cause Analysis

This two-day workshop is an economical way to gain valuable problem-solving skills and evaluate the Cause Mapping approach for your organization. The Cause Mapping method is our trademark approach to root cause analysis, incident investigation and problem solving. We focus on the basic principles of cause-and-effect and evidence. It’s important to demystify some of the conventional language and terminology surrounding root cause analysis.

The two-day Cause Mapping workshop is our core workshop upon which all of our other services are based. Each attendee receives a 158-page workbook containing all of the concepts, steps, examples and exercises covered in the workshop. People will learn the basic concepts and definitions as well as the steps to Cause Mapping and Process Mapping. The best tips for facilitating (leading) group problem solving will also be covered. There is a section that covers documenting an incident using paper, dry-erase board or Microsoft Excel. The two-day format allows time to work in small groups to practice and apply the skills they’ve learned in the workshop.

Cause Mapping II – Facilitation and Documentation

The objective of the Facilitation and Documentation workshop is to improve an individual’s ability to lead a group of people through a comprehensive problem investigation, including the implementation of solutions and documentation of the entire incident.

You will gain the most benefit from the Facilitation and Documention workshop by first attending a one or two-day Cause Mapping I - Effective Root Cause Analysis workshop, either public or client, then applying the Cause Mapping method on at least one problem. The experience of working specific issues will change the nature of the questions you ask in the workshop.

Facilitating an investigation is the clear collection and organization of all relative information. While the Cause Mapping method consists of basic steps and simple tools, it’s important to know how to effectively document an incident as it can greatly impact the time it takes to complete an investigation. All of our Cause Maps are created with a universal software program, Microsoft Excel®. In this particular workshop, you will be positioned in front of a computer so you can immediately apply the teachings. Tips for documenting incidents using pen and paper, chart paper, dry-erase and Excel are covered in depth.

You will receive a facilitation and documentation-specific workbook and USB flash drive to house support documents and templates used and created in the workshop. Following the workshop, you will receive one hour complimentary consultation with the instructor, which may be used to review and discuss any Cause Maps you and your group have facilitated.
