Requirement: Each participant must bring a laptop

This workshop is designed for those individuals wanting to take their problem-solving and investigation skills to the next level. Through hands-on application, you will learn how to effectively collect and organize information about the problem, lead a structured investigation and provide clear documentation in an Excel Project Workbook. We will spend the majority of class time applying the skills rather than on theory and concepts. A significant portion of the workshop will include hands on training using Excel to capture and document problems. It is recommended you submit a prepared Cause Map at least one week prior to the workshop. The purpose of this pre-work is to allow you the opportunity to discuss your experience with the instructor during the workshop, and receive productive criticism. Due to the one-on-one interaction between the instructor and attendees, the class is limited to 15 people. Included in the registration fee, you will receive one hour of remote consultation after the workshop to review and obtain feedback on any Cause Map.

Through Application, You Will Learn How To:
- Effectively collect and organize the information needed to complete a Cause Map
- Identify the components required for a thorough investigation
- Evaluate the amount of detail needed for a thorough investigation
- Incorporate other tools such as timelines, diagrams, and process maps into the investigation
- Incorporate facilitation tips and strategies
- Manage the dialogue when working in group settings
- Capture the information using Microsoft Excel (both 2003 and 2007)
- Organize and document the information in an Excel “project workbook”

You will receive a Cause Mapping II - Facilitation and Documentation workbook that follows the workshop's examples. Following the workshop, you will receive one hour of complimentary consultation with the instructor, which may be used to review and discuss any Cause Maps you and your groups have facilitated. This will insure that your Cause Mapping effort gets a good jump start.
